does anyone know what is legal and humane to do with raccoons in FL?

Oh no they won't!!! I have one trapped right now, and they threatened me with a fine, for trapping! but it was killing my chickens. I'm in florida. they told me to call guy who has a license and for $50 he will come and kill it. So not going to happen I will keep my $50

Right on <3 I just word it that way because people flip out at people for drowning or who even slightly suggest to do it. I'd almost drowned once myself, head was held under water by someone. It was scary but it was like falling asleep at the end. Compared to other ways that had to be one of the easiest ways. I don't know why people think drowning is "painful". It's scary but absolutely painless. Frankly, I personally believe its more scary being in the cage in the first place than drowning. And yes electricity HURTS. It's also traumatic, I still swim (happily) but flip out at anything electrical. :x

I think it is most humane to dispatch of the animal as quickly as possible. It's death should not be drawn out or scary. In your situation, shooting is probably a good option. If you can't do it, let someone else do it who knows how to use a firearm.

Do you have a wildlife conservancy in your area? They send out volunteers to pick up sick or injured wildlife. Just tell them you were trapping oppossum or something else, and you caught it by accident. Explain that it seems lethargic. They will care for it and release it , after they know it is healthy.

Does anyone know what I am able to do with raccoons that are trapped at my house?  We do live in a neighborhood...  I would not be against killing them, but obviously can't shoot them in my neighborhood, and nothing else seems humane.  I am not sure if you can legally transport them... does anyone know?  Guess I will have to try to contact someone in law enforcement?

hopefully you never killed the poor thing. you dont have to shoot it. my boyfriends dad always traps them and my mom and I bring them far away from where they live. I usually take them to the preserve close to my house. I put a sheet over the trap and put it in the back seat of the car. bring it to the place and and release it. they will not attack you because their main concern is getting away from us. that is as humane as its gets. unlike the rest of the impatient gun happy pos that commented on here, ive been doing this for years on end. never had a problem.

Relocation of wild animals is generally an illegal an ill thought out procedure.

And the reason it is illegal has to do with rabies and other diseases, I'm sure. Raccoons from one area should not be brought to another area to infect the existing population. And a rabid raccoon will not behave in a predictable way, so opening the cage is dangerous. Be careful. (Shoot 'em.)
