Does Anyone Know What Kind Of Spider This Is? Is It Dangerous?

Oh yes! She extremely dangerous to bugs & things that bite you in the night! I'd let her alone... that's some beautiful pics of her in the web... around here I think they are called "Barn Door Spiders"

She is a young Orb Web Spider. We have them here, they are harmless. They make that "Z" in their web so birds will see it and not fly through it & rip it. They are pretty smart. And pretty, too. I love watching them. Even though I hate spiders, these I like.

I think the only "dangerous" spiders in the U.S. are the brown recluse and the black widow. Your spider isn't either one of those.

I hate to tell you this, Red, but PIGS have fangs! Boars, anyway.

I like spiders like this one. They eat nasty bugs. I always name my spiders Charlotte. It's kind of hard to afraid of a Charlotte.

Duckie, we've always called them Writer Spiders due to the zigzag in the web. Sounds like yours gets good meals.

When my daughters were young they would catch crickets and I would 'feed' them to the Writers around the house. I would put the cricket on forceps (Ex worked at a hospital for a while) and reach towards the web. The first few times were scary, as the spider bounced her web to scare us off. But after a couple of feedings they would slowly reach out and take the crickets right off the forceps. Because they are so big, you could actually watch the spinnerets shooting out the silks as they wrapped the crickets. It was way WAY cool.

I was always terrified of spiders before that, but had to be brave in front of the kids. I do MUCH better around spiders these days, as long as they don't crawl on me!
