Does anyone love Christmas?

The ritual also included the hanging of the greens and wreaths. Gifts were given. And the Catholic church instead of trying to do away with it they just sanctified it and welcomed the pagans into the church.

Just wondering if this is referring to the Druids? Just curious. Thanks.

Who said any thing about beleiving in Santa. I am also a Christian and my children, when they got old enough were told the truth anout " Santa ". I"m talking about the spirit of Christmas, you can celebrate the holidays without all the ritualistic mumbo jumbo.

Well, I just don't know what that would be, actually, the spirit of Christmas. If those people, family or not, do not make the effort to stay in touch with me the rest of the year, I see no reason to want any contact from them on a made up holiday. If people change for the better for one month, as you said, then it's fake and temporary. They should treat the rest of humanity with the same respect and love every day, no matter what day it is. And the fact that Jesus was not born in December, nor were we ever asked to celebrate His birth, but only to honor His Death, Burial and Resurrection, sort of ruins it for me, too. The worst is seeing a church bringing in a fake Santa Claus, geez. Talk about inappropriate!
Sorry, I'm sure you'll think I'm a wet blanket at the very least, but you asked. I'd rather give gifts when I can, not when its dictated, and I dont wish for anyone else to give me gifts on Christmas, either. How about dropping me a line some other time during the year? Phone calls? Most of the things you spoke of loving about the holiday are the things I avoid-the rush, the people, the decorations, the overindulgent spending, the falsities, etc. So, nope, actually, it's my least favorite time of year. Everyone must be persuaded in their own mind and do what your own conscience dictates, though. For me, uh, nope. I try to avoid these types of posts most of the time so I'll bow out now.

CHRISTMAS ROCKS!! We spend all year hitting the garage sales finding all of the great deals on christmas stuff so we can overload the house and front yard for a month, only to put it away for another 11 months storage.. nothing like it, makes me want to make cookies and pies

YEP!! we are major christmas fans :O)

I'm sort of on the fence with Christmas. I love getting together with the family, etc. but it is so commercial now that it's taken the fun out of it (for me anyway). That time of year is an anxiety attack waiting to happen... with all the traffic, the running around, the spending way too much money.
I think it's sad that people seem to have forgotten the real reason for Christmas. It just seems like an overindulgence to me.
I also worked 10+ years in retail and, trust me, Christmas is not the same after you spend 4 months out of the year around holiday stuff.

I hear that one loud and clear!!! I have been over 20 years in retail. It kinda leaves a bad taste in your mouth after putting up with all the grumps that didn't plan ahead for their meal and rush in and ream you because there are lines in the checkstands because everyone on the planet is shopping that day. (But that is a rant for another day

I used to love Christmas and Thanksgiving because it was the 2 days a year EVERYONE in the family was off work and we could actually PLAN a day together.

Now with the commercialism, political correctness and false good cheer and customers who are rude, nasty and unhappy, I don't really do Christmas. Everyone is stressed about affording gifts and getting everything right. Like Arklady, I give gifts when I feel like it for no reason other than I want to at any time of year. The religious aspect is nothing to do with it. To each his own.

I will always make a turkey and fixings for Thanksgiving and I tell the family "dinner is at (insert time here). Leave politics and religion at home, come and enjoy a nice afternoon if you want. I will even let you hold a duck.

If you can't make it that's ok, we will catch you next time."

I don't let all the commercialism get to me, i love christmas. There is nothing like traditions. My family was big on tradition and my dh's was not and christmas did not mean a lot to them other than the gifts and being materialistic. When we got married and he saw how simple things made us happy, the buying a fresh tree, decorating and making cookies it did not take long to involve him in the traditions. It's funny this topic came up, i was in walmart yesterday and the trees were going up already and i said to dh maybe we should get an artifical this year since the kids all are on their own or at college. He said "are you kidding? That's the craziest idea i ever heard"!

I couldn't agree more. One of my first jobs was working for Best Buy in the Christmas season. That was all it took, I swore I'd never go back to Christmas retail! I can't imagine doing it year after year...
I think a lot of people would agree that Christmas is over-commercialized and are irritated that a good number of folks are only nice for one month out of the year, but just think, if we didn't have the holiday season, maybe those 'December-donators' would *never* help out less fortunate people. Maybe the holiday season serves at least as reminder that you should be kind to others.

I'm not Christian but I'll celebrate just about anything, (we had a 'first egg' celebration) we don't overdo it with too many presents (I probably spend a total of $100-$150 on gifts for the whole family) but it's a great time to get together with everyone and eat lots of great food and be thankful for how fortunate you are to have friends and family! and the lights are so pretty.

Rachel- I worked at Best Buy for four years!

THAT is the reason why I ONLY want to hear Christmas music on Christmas Day. NO OTHER DAY!!!

There are a lot of traditions that my family has that I look forward to (one is a Swedish drink called Glogg that my dad makes). Last year, I bought almost all the Christmas gifts online and that made it a lot less painful for me. I avoided the mall!

I love the cooler temps around Thanksgiving and Christmas, because I love to cook and it's too dang hot right now. I love to make soups and yummy comfort foods for my family.

Our family doesn't focus alot on gifts, we go small on gifts and big on love and traditions. I try to instill the right ideas in my 9 year olds head. So he doesn't grow up to be the thankless spoiled kid I see so much these days.

I'm the baker in the family too and the joy I get from watching people open up a box of fresh baked goodies is a pleasure to say the least. This year should be even better because I will be using FRESH eggs! YUM
