Does anyone not use poop boards?

No poop boards, just really deep litter, and I toss BOSS and scratch around to get them to dig and fluff the shavings. I put the shavings in last May I think, and they are still nice, not much smell. About once a month I might go in with a 4 tined pitchfork and fluff and flip the shavings all over, and then let the chickens do their work.

Coop is about 10x10, 14 standard sized chickens. I'd say the litter is about 8"+ deep, maybe close to a foot. I plan on taking it all out in a couple weeks when my knee is good enough for labor, dump it in the garden to finish composting for May planting. I'll refill with shavings at that time too. I was really pleased with how it worked.

Thanks for the replies, I think my plan will work, my main chicken area will have a 12x12 floor space with the roost area being an extra 4' wide by 6' long area. I will have sand on top of concrete. In the roost area I would just leave it like that, but was thinking that in the main area to put shavings over the sand, at least in the winter. Hope more people post on this topic, I would like all the ideas I can get.

Nothing worse than chicken walking in their own muck.

They make the most mess under their roost-my system keeps them out of it and is very easy to shovel out by sliding up the gate in the tracks.
Works well, my house is very clean.

I have 24 hens in my large fowl coop and I remove 12 gallons of droppings from the poop trays every two weeks. This substantially reduces the frequency of cleaning the floor. I built two frames with 1x2 and covered the bottom with RFP (a plastic panel available in 4x8 sheets). These are suspended with hooks and chains approximately 6" below the roosts.
