Its pretty and the pics are nice quality but not alot of breeds and not alot of info on each breed. Just some basic coverage. Nice coffee table book.

I have it and many other books too (and even a DVD!!)

. Nice large photos, descriptions of breeds in sections by layers, meat, dual purpose or banty. Not meant to be too helpful with care and maintenance. As already mentioned its a nice one for the coffee table and includes ducks, geese and turkeys too.

i like pocket full of poultry better, jmo. we sold both at my co-op, its just pics with a few discriptoins, pocket has ducks and geese in it too... cant remember if this one does, but its still a nice one... most storey books are good tho

Its a great book, but if i could only have one book, i would have the chicken health handbook. Very helpful book to have.

The copy I own is nearly as good as the standard, and actually includes more birds than the APA. I love it, and my mom (who works at the public library) knows to give it to anyone who requests the "pretty chicken book"

I use it a lot in tutoring for 4-H poultry showmanship, and I get great results. Having real pictures gets kids a lot more engaged than the tiny illustrations in the APA.My littel brother got Grand Champion Junior Showman this year, his first year and second show!
Pocket of Poultry was very disappointing. It had many birds mislabeled, underepresented, bad information,or lacking info,and poor quality birds. Although I may be getting it confused with another book with a similar name. The birds in Storey's were for the most part excellent representatives of their breed.
It includes all forms of poultry, though doesn't have very much info on peafowl, emu, swans, chukar, quail, doves, ostrich, etc. It basically gives a little background info on those birds, but is very in depth on the chickens, ducks, geese, and turkeys.
I agree with Lurky on the Chicken Health Handbook. It is the best!
