Does anyone raise quail on the ground?

After discussing with hubs we decided on a bin. I still need something for heavy shade but I think I have something temporary I can use.

We've had steady but not heavy rain since last evening. The extra shade I added has two layers of cloth so it's staying dry underneath.

Everyone looked dry this morning and the heat plate is still in the bin. I'm going out after dark to see if they're still using it.

I've had to surround some of the plants with brick to keep the bathing in their root zones down to a minimum. I need to get a little more of that done today. The good thing is, quail aren't nearly as strong as chickens so the bricks can be small.

So what do you do with cage at night?

its indoors.
i let them out on a cement ground every day, and every other day they go outside supervised.
i do nothing at night.

Yikes! He shouldn't be able to get at them, but I'm sure they're interesting. You've got an opportunity for some good photos there!
This is where the innate stupidity of coturnix comes in handy. If they're dumb enough to not know to avoid predators, they're dumb enough to not care about a predator outside.
