Does anyone read post topics before adding a new one?

I have wanted to find information and figured the question had probably been asked. I did enter my "question" in the search box to see if a thread was already posted on it and nothing came up. So I then posted my question/thread. There have been times someone did put on a link to where the subject had been discussed. I don't know why I was not able to find the link when I tried looking, but as I said, there have been times I tried and couldn't find that a certain thread had already been brought up or discussed.

I would like to bring up one thing that very well could be happening to cause duplicate threads/discussions:

I know for myself, I have several health issues and with at least one of them is a thing called 'brain fog'. My memory is shot totally during a brain fog episode and some of the cognitive thinking is jeopardized. It is very easy to miss that the subject or question has already been posted. Even if it is just a line or two apart. Also, with some of the kinds of health issues comes an exhaustion, that a person just does not have the energy to read through the threads that are there. Is it all they can do, to just be able to write out their question and put it out for answers/discussion. It is not that I am too lazy to read the other threads, but that in all honesty, I really and truly do not have the energy to do so. (if any has lupus or sjogrens or other autoimmune condition, I imagine you can understand what I mean about no energy and being too exhausted. or even some heart diseases)

I am not trying to tick anyone off, but just trying to explain and educate that there could be good reasons for the duplicate threads. I imagine a lot of people don't know about what can happen with some illnesses and don't understand why someone may do the things they do.

Back to this original comment. It does not bother me.

Oh, I agree it is amazing how often the same topic does come up in different threads at the same time. A lot of that is understandable. This time of year, a lot of chickens are molting and quit laying eggs, so there are a lot of threads on molting or quit laying. Sometimes an article will come out in Backyard Poultry, Countryside, or another of the usual magazines some of us read, so similar threads get started on here. I think a lot of times, people are reading a different thread and a question comes up. Instead of hijacking that thread, they start another thread. A lot of times people type at the same time and don't go back and do another search before they post a thread. Sometimes people are new to this forum and don't know how it works. I had to use the search feature a few times to get better at using it. If you think about it, most of the questions could be answered by looking at the stickies or the Learning Center. Some people just have the personality that they are just going to fire off a question without looking for an answer. Some people will do a thorough search before they post a question.

I often give a link to another thread, sometimes recent or sometimes ancient. I don't see anything wrong with that and it often saves me a lot of typing. People don't always follow the link, but that becomes their problem, not mine.

I can come up with a lot of reasons why there are duplicate threads on here. The main reason that does not bother me is that if only new original questions were asked, this forum would be dead within a week. Probably less. This forum thrives on questions and there are just not that many original questions left.

Imp- tried to ineptly type out the same answer early this morning, but it kept coming out as a lecture, so I deleted.

Thanks Ridgerunner!

Most of the repeat threads could be answered if people would invest $20.00 dollars in a "How To Raise Chickens" book Or many of the other resources that are out there. Some new to chickens get so much advise that they end up really bonkers and change things daily or even hourly. Then their next post is: " LOST MY PEEPS!" I had the benefit of grandparents who raised chickens. But you don't remember everything you learned at 10 when you hit 30. I bought a book in the '70s and another in 2009. Not much difference in the basics. Some posts you just scratch your head and think, good luck with that. All in all it's entertaining. You can always pick something up from anyone because of the new members signing up. You can just pass over the repeat threads and open the ones that look interesting. The one thing that brings us all together is we all have birds.

"Fog brain." This also occurs with folks who have undergone chemotherapy. Some or nearly all of it eventually clears up, but sometimes there's a disconnect that wafts through cognition even years later.

But hey, it's better than dying of cancer!

I admit I feel a twinge of irritation at near-duplicate question posts, for about *snap* THAT long. But I am far more annoyed by "online conversation personalities" which I later discover are manifested by kids. Oh. Well. I don't like children, anyway, so that's just a given.

I give myself permission to be annoyed and then I move on, after my momentary fit of pique, un-annoyed.

Hey, maybe there IS something to anti-depressant medications! Happy happy, joy joy. I'm gonna go home to watch some chickens in less than 2 hours!
