Does anyone use the Brinsea OvaScope Egg Viewer?

Just one additional note. If you get one, get the high intensity unit, it's much better for dark eggs based upon the reviews I looked at.

Thanks to those that have tried it and like it. I wonder how much better that high intensity version is since I will be doing normal brown eggs and not Marans. This OvaScope Viewer is already expensive at $65 and the high intensity is another $20.

I’m afraid I only have The Brinsea ovaview candler and not the scope. I do hope others will chime in for you with some advice

Do you like your candler? I realize that one is not enclosed or anything, but how does it work compared to a handheld candler/flashlight? Can you turn the egg without physically turning the egg?

Hope you don't mind my asking, but where in Yorkshire are you? My dad was born in Leeds, but hasn't been back since he left in 1942.

I was thinking about this OvaScope Viewer. I'm not sure this will work afterall. If you are supposed to candle top down from the fat end you would have to turn the egg upside down. Hmm.... dilemma. I'd hate to ruin an incubating egg by flipping it around.

Any thoughts on this?

Currently on my 2nd try incubating as I did way too much handling the 1st time.

I love my candler It is hand held though. I either hold the egg and stick the candler on top to check them or I just put the candler on top of the eggs in the incubator to have a look.

I’m not sure how the scope one works but I’m sure it’s tried and tested. Eggs being the other way round for a short period of time should not do any harm. It’s only prolonged periods that would damage an embryo.

It's your choice which way to put it in. It comes with a washer for pointy end down or without for large end down. I prefer to candle large end down as it seems to be easier to control the egg and gives a better view. I actually had to go get it and an egg to be sure. I haven't had any issues with doing it that way, but I am gentle with the eggs. My biggest complaint is with turkey eggs, I sometimes have trouble getting them back out with my fat hands (btw, I wear a 3X glove). DW has small hands and doesn't seem to have an issue.

You both say it is OK to turn the egg over to candle as long as it's gently. Thank you -- that answers my question.
