Does Comb Color indicate Egg Laying

Actually this is a closely related question.I have 13 Rhode island reds about 8 months old.Three of them have smaller lighter colored combs than the rest and I'm not getting quite as many eggs as I was expecting. At this age will they still develop?I haven't figured out how to tell who's laying what. They all are eating well and appear healthy.

What about chickens that have been laying for a few months. If their comb is only pink and not bright red does that mean they are not laying as well?

I have noticed this with our chickens as well. Suddenly our one pullet had a large bright red comb and proceeded to lay an egg a day for the last 12 days. Today it is more pale and today she failed to lay.
