I'm fairly certain I know the answer, but I thought I would check anyway.

We have what I thought/believe are RIR or generic production reds. Anyway, one is laying green eggs. Somebody said the eggs can change colors based on what you feed them.

Thank you. Thats what I thought, but before I correct somebody else I wanted to check.

The yolks are almost orange, super dark. Is that good or bad?

And is there anyway to tell who is laying the green?

I like my yolks to be a dark orange, or at least a far removed from the pasty pale store-bought yolks as possible. :)

Here is the yolk colour of our first eggs.

Good it means the are eating lots of good things like greens.

If you do a search there is a few, you could separate them one by one and see who lays green or their is a way you put food coloring/lipstick on their vents to see what color smears match which hens.

Awesome. Thats about what our yolk looked like. My husband was afraid to eat it, so I snatched it right up. I don't know how you can compare to the store.

Ok, I guess I'll try to watch for right now and see what happens. I thought they weren't even supposed to lay in the winter, so it might be awhile before there's more.
