Does everyone here kill their chickens after they stop producing eggs?

Thanks everyone for all your heartfelt opinions it is appreciated. Just had the thought today and was wondering what everyone else thought!

Mine are just beginning to produce eggs. I only have five but I think they will just become pets. I could change my mind later but I know each one of them, they have a name, and I don't think I could do it with these chicks. However, the thought did cross my mind that if I had 50 or more, I wouldn't get attached and would be okay with it. All in all, it is personal preference. I have heard that the home-raised chickens are superior to what you buy in the store -- which is why I would get them for that purpose.

The favorites will get a home forever, the others not sure yet. We did cull our boys. I was worried I would be upset by it, but once they were turned into food I was fine with it.

We don't do in the ones we recognize. For example we have a RIR that limps because she broke he leg once and we only have 1 Leghorn. Everyone else is just a chicken. Made to eat.

I also have had this same thought so does the year start when they are hatched or when they start to lay, my girls are only 12 weeks old so I have time to build a golden girls home if need be will cross that bridge when I get to it
