Does it ever feel like work?

nakstk[b :

SO I am wondering does it ever feel like work taking care of your chickens and gathering eggs?[/b]

It doesn't for me but maybe it would if I have more birds.

No I don't think it feels like work, I actually enjoy cleaning the coop and seeing how many eggs we get each day. Plus the noises the girls make when they see me is priceless. When I read that chickens had personalities and could be trained to come when called, I was wondering if it was true. But it is TRUE!!! My girls love me, they help me walk to my car, weed the garden, clean their coop or just mosey around the yard with me making their chicken noises. I am so happy I got my hens, what a wonderful experience!!

When it's 15 or 20 degrees F and the wind is blowing at 40 mph and my hands and feet are aching - yes it feels like work to be out there replacing water 3 or 4 times a day. But, after all it is an addiction and I have already given up several. This one I choose to keep as long as is possible.

I hear you on the freezing cold part but it just makes me feel good to know that the girls are snug in their coop and that I made that possible for them. Should I be concerned about my heated waterer freezing in the temps that you described? My coop isn't drafty or anything which says not to place the waterer in a draft.

Usually Fun except I do not like to clean pens. I always think WHY do I have these little creatures? But the next day it's all forgotten.
