Hatcheries add extras according to their own policies, most because of death rates and poultry people know to expect a certain % of loss....so when someone orders 25 maybe a couple or 3 are added, maybe 1 with 10, but someone ordering ONLY 5 birds probably just wants 4-5 birds and are ordering all one breed. Metzer knows to pack heating pads, tape holes, etc. to give the birds the best chance. Many hatcheries only send what you order and refund if birds arrive dead and after 3 days you're on your own. Metzer has great ongoing support if you need it.
