I just noticed this morning that my light Brahma hen’s eyelids look swollen. She’s eating, drinking, and doing things normally. No drainage out of her eyes and nose. Her breathing is normal—no sneezing. She’s otherwise healthy. I have separated from the flock just in case. I have Tylan in my emergency poultry box just in case, but I don’t want to medicate if is just an injury or irritation. What do you think?

Hi, sorry i am not much help, as i cannot really tell. Of course you know
your hen, and will notice a lot more. But you have done the right thing
by moving her, in case there is something going on with her. Just keep
your eye on her, i am sure others will help soon. To me she looks healthy.
Also very beautiful. :frow

Thank you so much for getting back to me! I have another Brahma who also has droopier eyelids, and I’m just wondering if it’s just the breed. They were young when I got them. Soon they will be a year old, so maybe it’s normal ‍♀️
I hope I’m overreacting lol

Thank you ❤️
We recently showed her at our county fair (and our other Brahma) and she got 2nd place. The Brahmas at the show all seemed to have heavier eyelids in general.

The left eye looks a little swollen, and both eyes seem to have that sunken look where the conjunctiva shows around the eye in the corners. But who knows if that is MG or just irritation. I would watch for bubbles or drainage, or for increased swelling before using Tylan. It may just be normal for that chicken. Congrats on winning second place. I am a little afraid of poultry shows since it is a good place to be exposed to diseases if there are any carriers without symptoms.

I just checked on her this afternoon, and her eyes look normal/better! I’m thinking irritation. I will still keep her in the “hospital” coop to keep an eye (no pun intended) on her

Glad they look better. I am always looking for swelling around eyes because of reading some many threads about respiratory diseases here, LOL. It can make you a little paranoid.

I’m paranoid too! Especially since I have a broody hen soon to sitting on hatching eggs (ordered online/waiting for them).
