Does my chicken have mites?

Today was the first day I noticed dark spots under my hen’s wings. Are these mites?

You need to look closely for tiny mites crawling on the skin. What is your location? Some mites are on chickens 24/7 while some only come on them at night. Mites deposit dark specks, so it could be mites, but I would only treat if I saw mites. Permethrin spray or garden dust treat mites, but must be used at 7 day intervals at least twice. The coop facilities must also be emptied of bedding and treated before new bedding is added. This article has food pictures of mites and lice, and what to look for:
