I adopted a "special needs" chicken yesterday evening so my foundling chicken will have a buddy. She is a beautiful buff cochin bantum. I noticed when I was bringing her home that she was sneezing and was skinny. She had a broken leg which healed badly and she just hops around since she can't walk. This morning when I went out to check on her and feed them, she's not in the same pen as my other chicken, she was still sneezing and the skin around her eyes and beak were bright red. It looked like her beak was wet so I thought maybe she had a runny nose so I wiped off her beak but nothing came out so I'm not sure. I looked through her feathers and there were little white bugs all over her. I checked my other chicken, no bugs. DH has the camera so I won't be able to take pics until tomorrow. Could she have an upper respiratory infection? If so what do I need to do for her? What are the little white bugs and how do I get rid of them? What is the best way to get her weight up? I gave her a little bit of banana, no thanks she said, I gave her some eggs and she ate some of those. She has grow formula food 24/7. Any ideas? Suggestions?
