Does Pen G procaine stink?

I bought some Pen G procaine for my wounded hen, and when we went to inject it, I noticed how bad the medicine stinks! Is it supposed to stink?

I have never noticed an odor from penicillin. I would think if it smells it may be bad.

Some injectable antibiotics and medications do have an odor. Is the date good on the box?

I just checked my bottle, drew some and smelled it. Only got a faint chemical/medicinal smell, no strong odor (never noticed one before, but wanted to be sure). My bottle has been in my fridge for almost a year, has an expiration of 2020, and has been used several times. If yours smells bad I would not use it, would take it back. It may have been contaminated or stored incorrectly and gone bad.

Yes, the date is good..expiration of 3/2020! We used it, and it worked well, so I'm assuming it's good. It really stinks though!

I used to use a lot of injectable and oral antibiotics in hospitals, and yes, some may smell pretty bad. Ampicillin, used more befor amoxicillin was one of the worst. Glad to hear that your chicken is doing better.
