Well it worked for me that's all I can say. My little old lady friend did it for me with 10 3 week old Silkie chicks and it was 100% accurate. I banded all the ones that showed to be pullets.

I do it every year on my Silkie chicks and it works for me. People can doubt, be skeptical, or flat out don't believe me. I don't care one little bit because I've seen it with my own eyes.

I don't doubt your word and I'm not skeptical that it works for you and your friend. I just see no scientific reason why a chain or string with a nut tied to the end would move differently based on a bird's sex.

If you're a believer then you're a believer. Not saying there's anything wrong with that.
I've know this method for 40+ years and seen it done with humans, chickens and about every other animal.
I believe what I've seen. Anyone interested can try it out. get your string and nut and try it on anything with a heartbeat. I'm sure everyone here has chickens or pets that they know the sex on so it will be easy to tell the accuracy. Best if you have someone do it that don't know what the results are supposed to mean so not to influence them.
My grandma used to do it with all the grand daughters to predict how many kids they would have and what sexes they would be.

It works but it does take an observant eye and a little practice. I use a magnet on a string. I DO NOT HOLD the string myself, I attach It to an inanimate object and I use it on eggs. Sometimes I am 100% and sometimes I hatch one or two more boys than I had intended it to an inanimate object and I use it on eggs.
