I have a Welsummer pullet who is eggbound with her first egg (for me anyway). I got her just two weeks ago. Here is a picture of her head, her wattles get very purple sometimes, and she is breathing kind of heavy. She is happy to be sitting on my lap even though I don't think she has been handled very much. I soaked her in warm water like I read on here and other places. How long before she might pass the egg if she is going to? The egg is between her pubic bones but not very close to her vent. Her crop is empty but she has been eating some. Has anyone used a suppository to help lube a hen to help pass the egg?

When I went to get eggs, the lady who owned the farm was getting her finger wet with mineral oil and trying to help it along, and it actually worked!

I am now thinking this egg is huge for her first one. If in fact it is her first one. I am not sure. She may have been laying last fall, I don't think the guy I got them from keep real good track of who is doing what.
Thanks. I just gave her a "veg. oil enema". We will see if that helps move things or not.
She is sitting on my kitchen floor. Good thing the family is all gone today. She is eating just a little bit, but not much.
