Does tempature or season affect hens egg laying ?

My hen hasnt been laying this past month stop laying every three days in mid September i live in the California LA region and this year was hot she had diarrhea then heat came then cold started to settle also i thought they might be egg eating but i havent been finding any egg shells also an egg broke in side and the soft shell was hanging from her but she didnt mind it all happy scratching dirt and chasing me for food the egg fell out later i was to scared to run the risk of me cutting some thing internally if i pulled it out also we are planning to build a pen for them how big should the nesting boxes should be i want them to go broody

Yes, hens typically slow down in the fall and winter. Some breeds go broody more than others. Not sure about your pen question.. Are you wanting to make an enclosure for a hen to go broody and raise her chicks?
