I have 5 call duckling and one of them that I think is a grey female had a very short beak. The other 4 I belive are either pastel or snowy and they have much longer thin beaks. Does this mean the 4 are all drakes or is it just a difference in type of call duck? The 4 are also 2 weeks younger than the grey.

The only thing gender affects in calls is the color. For example Grey Call males have yellowish green bills, and the females have brown and orange bills. Not sure what is exactly affecting the shape, but it’s definitely not gender.

Breeding affects the bill size. Show breeders pick their pairings to match how short and wide the bills are supposed to be

My Pastel colored Call Ducks drake got the darker chest and greenish bill so I knew right away as soon as that happened that it was a male. The female stayed lighter with no green on her bill. I can usually tell the sex of my ducks by the bill color but that doesn't always work with all breeds.

Hi all, I have 2 call ducks that are 4 1/2 weeks old and I am curious whether they are duck/drake. My gut says both ducks but would love your opinions. One is a Snowy Call and the other a Pastel Call.

It took me a while to figure out my 2 unsexed from Metzer Farms. My Drake got that greenish beak and my Hen did not. I could not tell for absolutely sure until mine were 6 weeks, then their voices confirmed what I thought. Yours are very pretty. My Drakes chest got dark too and my Hen's stayed light on my Pastels.
