I must be a bit odd because I LOVE killing my birds, knowing it was instant and painless
Must be the apex preditor in me!
I just came up with a new way to do it that worked really well, I made a drawstring bag from the upper part of an old pair of bluejeans (being bigger than I should be it was just the right size to fit a roo into) I left the narrow end open about 3 to 4 inches to slip the birds head through and a nice long string on the wide end to tie the birds feet together with and hang it up by. Then I used a pair of by-pass loppers on the neck, just behind the head. By hanging the roo faceing away from me I had a clear view of its neck so no chance of missing
and when I was all done it just went into the washing so its all clean for next time.
The head didnt come off but was just hanging by a bit of skin and it was held by the bag so no flapping about.
Best of all, no hatchet or sharp knife to do myself an injury with
I think anyone who can do their own birds is great but if you cant, dont beat yourself up over it. My mum cant even hear about it without getting upset.
Oh, and it has taken me 3 months to find someone who didnt care if I was going to eat their rooster, even ones they wanted money for
One person wrote back to me and said "Oh NO, you cant EAT Mr. Fluffy Bottom!"
She wanted $8.00 for it but wanted a say in its fate
so needless to say I didnt buy it but dang, talk about wanting it both ways
