....very rough?...I caught a male on top of a female today and I wasn't sure if it was rough "mating" or he was trying to hurt her...He was standing on her and gnawing on her hear trying to get a grip, or so it seemed...I checked them out from all angles and either they were fighting or he's just new and hasn't figured out the end game yet...But it appeared so rough, I felt the need to break them up for fear of him hurting her(he's so big and she's so wittle)...Is this the norm?...

Yup

that is the norm. It seems to go easier for the old girl in the water if you have a pond or something that they swim in.

I know what you are saying, though-- I always feel like Peeps is squishing his poor wifey with his big fat butt!

We do have a little pond and my wife saw him try to 'mate' her there but she broke them up as she felt like he wasn't letting her breathe...I too thought it was done in the water which made this morning's session unusual...

Thank you though, I'm glad it's a sign of affection between them...

LOL

Yeah it looks rough, but you will notice those girls flattening out for the boys...those hussies!

My Welsh Harlequin drake has a favorite and the poor thing has a bald spot

You should see turkeys...it's scary. I have Muscovies in the bator, thank goodness I don't have to put up with them yet! My turk is being a pain to his wifey and I have already had to seperate them once. If he gets too overzealous that's what I'd do. Hopefully they'll all settle down soon. I had no idea they would be so rough either.

I hope mine never mate !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Im a Big Wimp and every llittle thing makes me feel

hahaha you are silly. i didn't like watching at first and i still don't but i have no choice. idk why duckie decides i have to be in the room while he does his thing, but that's the way it goes. how can you not watch??? lol

I'm not looking forward to my teenage sons having this to watch! My muscovies are still only a couple of weeks old.
They already get to watch our roo, Mr. Male Chauvinist Extraordinairre, in action. I don't know how many more bad examples they can take.
