Ive heard alot of people tell me that adding black pepper to my chickens feed will jump-start there egg laying, some people swear by it so i was just wondering if any of yall have had results from it?

I've never tried it but, pardon the pun, you should take these tales with a grain of salt. I wouldn't bet on it.

You must work there. Last four threads you have posted this.

Sharp eyes 7L!!! I think that all this poster's posts are 'advertisements'. Interesting approach...isn't it?

To the OP.... there are a lot of people that do subscribe to the old wives' tale about pepper--- Black, red, or white. What would happen if you gave it a try, and posted back? There are several threads where people have posted their anecdotal experience with pepper. ;O). It won't harm your chickens.

Here's a link or two

I wonder if black pepper (peppercorns) stimulates ejection of formed eggs and red pepper (hot or sweet) stimulates development of eggs for release from the ovary and fertilization.
Just a thought. I just gave 1 hen 2 peppercorns. She got a big drink of water and went to sit on the nest. She lays in the mornings but this is early even for her.
My hens often get any pepper seeds I have. Red, green, hot, bell. Some are young and just started laying, some slowed and are picking back up. I have heard of a number of chicken keepers around here whose chickens all stopped laying right when it seemed mine were gearing up.
One observation - for what it's worth. 😄

All of these are just a load of bull. For chickens as well as for people - made-up magic shortcuts to achieving a desired goal without putting in the patience or work to get there the normal way. Pepper won't do squat for egg laying - not black, not red, not purple, not any kind of pepper. Throwing salt over your shoulder won't do anything either, nor will reciting a spell at full moon. Those are all in the same category. You can set the stage for egg production, with proper nutrition and good care (and maybe artificial lighting), but beyond that, it's just anatomy. If a hen's body needs to take a break, there's no magic in the world that can force it to lay.
