Does the pyritherine (sp?) powder kill lice and mite eggs, too?

I bought lice-laden roo from an auction, possibly gapeworm, too. I gave him Ivemectrin Pour-On (5 or so drops) and did the lice powder (not DE). He has lots of lice egg clumps, and I cut off a lot. I bathed him (he also smelled intensely of cow or pig poop), then when dry did the Ivemectrin and the powder. Will the powder kill the eggs? What else should I do? He is isolated and I plan to re-treat at 10 days. Do I have to still isolate him after that?

I would isolate him for at least two weeks after he has no symptoms-

Ivermectin and powders have no effect on eggs. I've read that coconut oil will remove the eggs. You will also have to dust the coop/nests and repeat again in 7-10 days. I'd keep him in quarantine away from your other birds for at least 6 weeks. There's no telling what else he has and you dont want to infect your flock. I doubt he has gapeworm if he's gaping...most likely a respiratory disease or crop adjustment. Lesson learned?

So I guess gasping is the wrong way to say it... it's more gurgling once in a while. I added Sulmet to the water as an antibiotic. I used VetRX in the nostrils and down the throat, too. This thing was so neglected it is disgusting.

So humor me here... what else could he give my flock that I haven't thought of? I've got worms covered with the Ivemectrin, and I will re-dose in 10 days. I've got him on antibiotic, and I am treating the rest of my flock (who has NEVER had ANYTHING serious - ARG!) tommorow and in10 days with Ivemectrin as a preventative in case I carry something over. What are the other possibilities? Also, what is a crop adjustment?

Gurgling is bad news. Most likely he has a respiratory disease. I recommend that you cull him and get the carcass off your property. Remember biosecurity...... clothing, hands, feeders/waterers, cages etc....

What could gurgling be? I am thinking about it and the gurgling is not that frequent, maybe 5 times in the last 24 hours and seems better. What respratory diseases are out there? What if I see if the gurgling gets better??????? I know you are THE person to ask about this (so I've been told!) but I wouldn't have the foggiest idea how to cull it.

I'd cull him and bleach everything ! There's no test for Mareks disease, and some of the respiratory diseases are no joke either. If it's really only parasites, worming and pyrethrin or sevin powder, etc, will fix it. Otherwise, it's bad news for risk to your birds. My opinion, Mary
