Crowing
I've got a partially blind, deaf, elderly dog with dementia. She likes to stand outside and bark. Can't stand it.

Oh I know! A shrill yap yap yap is just...awful! One of ours is a chihuahua mix. He's got to be about 98% chihuahua though and he, by far, has the loudest mouth. I'll be honest...I've thrown a couple of his toys at him to shut him up. He's usually a good listener though!![]()
My dog is heading that way too. He's going deaf and getting the early stages of blindness.I've got a partially blind, deaf, elderly dog with dementia. She likes to stand outside and bark. Can't stand it.
Glad to know I'm not the only oneI saw my closest neighbor the other day for the first time since I got the chickens. I had told him they were coming, i'm allowed to have them so I wasn't worried. Anyway I asked him if they could hear the boys, he said they could and he likes it because he grew up hearing roosters and it takes him back. He's about 60.
I have two at present. I like hearing them too. They crow at me when I get home while standing at the fence of their pen.
Dogs barking for no reason I do not like. Even my own dogs. Which happens a lot now that they're getting older. Instead of chase after something of interest they'd rather just lay there and bark at it.
What happened to them?I used to raise dogs and I couldn't tolerate nuisance barking, if I yelled 'SHUT UP!" the silence was deafening for a while anyway. If they saw me smiling, they would start again but a frown stopped them instantly. Dogs do read facial expressions.
I once tried a PA system so I could yell"shut up" from the privacy of my room. Didn't work - when they heard the voice but saw no one - they barked even worse. Those were the good old days. I sure miss them.
