Does this chick look bearded?

What made me so suspicious about today's chick was the resemblance to the other chick in the last photo of post #1. That photo shows my now six month old pullet, Pudding.

This is Pudding as a chick again and then as she is now:

See, beardage.

Now this guy is definitely the dad of both Pudding and the new chick:View attachment 1668347

But these are the possible mothers -
Serama who hatched the chick:

Or...
Belgian Barbu d'Anver who is the biological mother of Pudding:

Aww!:love

This is not a chick, Redhead Rae. This is clearly a pompom with a beak stuck on. :lau:love
I know! That was my thought when I got my 7 EEs in the mail. I was only supposed to get 4, but they sent 7.

As far as muffs go. I did have one chick that hatched with just muffs, no beard.
Unfortunately, I don't have a chick pic of her when she was really little.

I love this thread, colourful, cute peepers.

I wonder if beards or muffs are a dominant trait?

I think it is bearded but kinda hard to tell.
Beards, muffs, pea combs are all dominant traits. Birds with a single copy of the gene will have less beard/muff and their comb will be bigger than birds with two copies of the gene.

Broody hens often come out of the nest to drink or eat. Another hen could easily get in there and lay the egg. It's also easy to bully a sitting hen that is half the size of the others out of the box.

Well the hen who is the other possible mother would never dream of getting near the serama whether she's sitting or not because the serama would murder her, lol. The belgian bantam is bottom of the pecking order and meek as a mouse.
Its entirely possible she snuck in there when the serama was on her lunch break but it seems a coincidence that she would have needed to lay during those exact fifteen minutes or so twice... But still a possibility...

It's a puzzler. I guess I will just have to wait and see what happens when the chick's feathers come in.

I don't know alot about hens laying eggs, but i have noticed that if one of my hens needs to lay an egg, and there's another hen where she wants to lay, she will cluck and hold the egg for a long time! And as soon as the other chicken is gone, they rush in there, and lay it. So I'm pretty sure they are able to hold their eggs for a little while, at least.
