Does this happens to you? Cuddling chickens

I didn’t know roosters could also be cuddling babes
As others have pointed out once they get older they generally like to be handled less I find.
Roosters are not all mean! Some are very friendly but even the meanest one I had I had to regularly hold becuase believe it or not it would be easier to catch him and hold him under one arm while feeding the flock than to deal with him sneaking around me to attack me from behind as I'd kneel down.
Once in my arms, he'd chill right out, let him go and he'd go back into his role of eyeing me up.
It was fairly easy to catch him too. Once they charge it's not like a bull where you are in serious danger. Chickens are very very slow in comparrison and they can't adjust their line of attack very easily so while he is charging you just walk up and around him, grab him and job done, no fuss and he'd be my hug bear for the next 5 minutes.

What’s are coons?
Sorry I'm southern, raccoons we just say coons around here
Raccoons make great pets. Skunks make even better pets.

Well, maybe not better, but Skunks make great pets, or at least the one I had did.
Yes but sadly while I had my last skunk they made skunks illegal to own in arkansas due to no known proven rabies vac (he was grandfathered in and I kept him). My neighbor at the time was a game warden and used to come get him to carry to the local schools. I got to keep stinky till he died of old age at 15 (I was 29) but he was a great pet. He died when my son was 4 and they loved each other. I grew up coon hunting and having pet coons so they have a place in my heart but he was something else. At least he didn't climb and scratch the crap all over me. I still have scars all over my chest from my first coon when I was 3 and my pet flying squirrel when I was 9 climbing all over my chest.
My now 13 y/o son has all kinds of pets but his favorite by far is his coon. We carry them to the nature center here when they have kids days. My son is shy but he takes great pride in showing them off and comes out of his shell.

now for something completely different, one of my 2 leash trained girls, Sally my son's. looks like a tiny collar but it's actually a harness under her winter coat. Coons slip out of collars.

Back when they were 10lb babies, Sally up front. Raven in the back. Think they were about 11 months old here, they are 3 now.

even then they were camera shy. Raven (my baby) looking trying to get sunflower seeds and Sally hogging them in the big fuzzy blur. They were about 4 or 5 months old here, abut 5lbs a pop.

Tiny babies but half grown, had them both since before their eyes were open. They were rescues. When I got them you could hold them both in one hand. Back when you could still easily hold one in your hand and they loved riding in the cargo pocket of my pants.

If photobucket didn't decide to go stupid I'd post pics of stinky.

Just to keep it on subject my chooks looking for treats after I filled their feeder. I always scratch a bit out the hole and they think it's their treat since they don't have to reach in the feeders for it. Lazy birds.

You don't have any trouble with your coons messing with your chickens? Or are you just really super duper careful?

I've thought it would be cool to have one, but the fact they have thumbs and a preinstalled robber mask makes me not trust 'em.

Mine was named Stinky, too! I wonder why??......Oh, well, I do not know.

He was great and I miss him. Probably ranks up there as one of the best pets I ever had.

Have had a few coons that were great, too.

Oh wow! I knew coons meant raccoons but I had to ask because I thought it was not possible to have chickens AND raccoons as pets. So I was imaging coons meant anothe chickens bread or something lol that’s amazing that they can be docile as well!

Like a 20+ lb cat that climbs all over ya and is far far more vindictive when it doesn't get it's way
