Last Wednesday I did the crop surgery on my hen. The crop and the incision were both closed, separately, with superglue, but it didn't hold. I've been cleaning several times a day with vetrycin and occasionally putting on neosporin. This morning I cleaned with hydrogen peroxide after flushing with saline. I picked up some pro pennicillin g at the feed store today. I am not excited to give her injections, but will do it if she needs it. The site is a bit puffy, kind of hard on the left side of the incision, but not red. I'll try to attach a picture. Thanks for your input.

you said there is a hard on her left side. does it move at all if you press
against the side you may have to put a drain in you seem fairly confident
in trying to close with super glue and the saline wash of nothing else
take a ball point pen apart use just the part that the pen tip comes
out of wash it in alcohol you will have to reopen the wound
wash with saline again do you have needle and thread? I think
it would be advised or but they also sell tape suture you could
do this with.. I think the pro g will be a good idea

Thanks for the reply. It doesn't move when pressed. I can't imagine putting in a drain..I can't imagine reopening the wound, for that matter! I'm a little confused. Where are you suggesting I reopen it? It hasn't closed up yet. I'll go ahead with the penicillin shots. Am I correct
In thinking I should give them daily for about four days? I read thats somewhere, I think. I'm not inclined to re lose with stitches or glue now that's been open so long. I've heard that traps in bacteria.
Thanks!

you are very correct in your 4 day window the end of the pen or a cut straw can be a drain
for the puss or infection to drain.. you can pick up paper sutures at any drug store
but the incision needs to be where you are able to place it in the wound part way
let it drain

Ok, thanks! So, are you suggesting I make a second incision to the left of the unsealed one, as that is where it is hard?

no if able use the open incision one use paper sutures or thread and needle
to secure it and try to close it again unless a scab has formed
but do the antibiotic the four days take the drain out after 6 or 8 days
clean with the saline as you have

Thank you. My apologies, I think I responded to you on the original thread, rather than this one...I started the penicillin last night. I don't really understand where I'm putting the drain...there isnt anything currently draining from the wound. It seems to be scabbed over inside, so don't want to make another cut into her. I'm not sure if it's infected. Given all of this, I'm continuing to flush it with saline and vetrycin. Are you suggesting I just place a drain at the incision and close around it? Is this just in car things get infected in there after she'/ closed up? I can follow that. If that isn't what you are saying, I'm not quite getting it. My apologies. Thanks again for your help.

See if your 4 day pen you can only give it every other day
see if it removes the lump and heals it all
otherwise you will have to put a drain in
