your information goes beyond inaccurate you are spreading downright LIES...

I am a hobby chicken farmer.. so i dont make a cent off my flock... so I have nothing to gain by pointing out how wrong your information is...

First and foremost... chickens SLOW DOWN OR STOP laying during a moult. not lay more eggs

white eggs are not laid brown and washed or bleached white.... they are laid that way. I have blue eggs... does that mean my daughter is secretly sneaking to the coop every morning with her trusty marker and getting busy?... I dont think so

My eggs are organic.. and have smooth shells... does this mean that Fred my rooster is out there sanding out the rough edges?... Good boy I knew I kept him around for a reason!

the taste difference goes way beyond feed... its cause farm fresh free range organic eggs are made by happy healthy hens that eat lots of bugs and have a variety in their diet... non organic eggs can and do have the same taste

so theres some food for thought... Oh yeah stop sniffing the bleach... it makes you write stupid things!

My response to David Toomey, founder of the site.....

I don't have any idea where this "writer" got her information, but she is so wrong it is just sad. It's sad because people will read her words and think she is correct.

First of all. There are three kinds of egg laying birds: white, brown and colored. I own Brown and white egg layers and I assure you there is not a drop of bleach that touches my eggs. Surprisingly, they still lay white eggs. Maybe your writer should try doing a brief search on sites like backyardchickens.com or look up Storey's Guide to Raising Poultry. I assure you, chickens not only lay white eggs naturally, but they can lay pink, blue and green ones too.

Secondly, chickens in molt, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT lay more eggs than out of molt. IN FACT, most molting hens will stop laying all together while they molt since it takes energy to regrow feathers. Further more, most chickens will molt in the colder months and at that point egg production goes down, if not stops all together.

Lastly, your author may not be super big on ACTUAL research, but it might be worth her while to REALLY look into her claims of "free range" and "organic" farms being better. As those of us who actually do have chickens and keep them not only as a hobby but for food know, many of these so called organic farms are nothing more than giant barns crammed with birds. Sure, they aren't in cages, but they still have the same horrible life that caged birds have. The only difference, you're paying twice as much for the eggs.

As for me, I have a small farm in which I raise my own specialty birds. I have been raising birds for several years and currently have about 30 birds. I actually researched and read about my birds before I took them on. I belong to several clubs and great on line resources where we spend every day undoing the misinformation sites like yours pass along to consumers.

Better luck next time getting it right.
