We got a white silkie chick today and we noticed later that it’s comb is a little pink/red. I’ve never seen this before on a silkie. Is this normal?

The pink/red is normal.. and if well balanced would make a Mulberry colored comb at maturity in a Silky. White Silkies, and project colors, especially hatchery quality Silkies are very common to have incorrect color skin.. lighter allowing red to come through instead of being dark, as it should be. Too many folks don't cull for that fault and breed it forward doing a great disservice to breed as a whole. This one is not too bad.

The bottom beak looks very over grown or the top is short.. that is NOT normal and I suggest a bit of a trim/file to bring it more in line with the top.. How old? :pop

Where did you get Silkies that are supposed to be female? I bred them for a while and without knowing age and seeing the rest of the body I would NOT jump to a conclusion of cockerel.. :fl

We got 6 silkies and they said they tried their best to get females but they are 5-10 weeks old so obviously it’s still hard to tell, which I’m ok with. But if the mullberry is a dead giveaway of a roo I was going to be a bit annoyed.
we got them from a local breeder where we live in KY. we actually got some from the same people a few weeks ago and we had them out in a little “play pen” during the day and unfortunately we had to make a hospital trip that lasted into the night and we lost them all. It was devastating for my kiddos. So these are their little replacement chicks.

In my experience, any red on the comb that young is male.

IMO breeders should never sell silkies as "pullets" unless there is an egg. Even when I'm quite confident a chick is a pullet, I do not make any promises.
