No felix, I have not got it yet. This just happened last night, so I'm thinking it might take some time. My wife has not stopped looking out the window in hopes of catching a glimps of whatever it is. We are still leaning to a coon, everything I read keeps steering me in that direction.
Racoon(s) for sure! I had this problem a few years ago. Terrible creatures. Kudos to the one hen that survived....she deserves a medal. Most do not as you saw.
Hot wire around the pen/coop will stop them...2 wires, the first about 6" off the ground. Make sure there are no trees they can climb to jump to jump down from.
Shotgun is better. I use my 20g. pump, pretty hard to miss with it. Used to use a 22 but you have to be lucky and accurate to hit a vital spot on a racoon running in the dark. If you do use the 22 get hollow pt. shells.
Good luck. Hope you get the nasty thing real soon! So sorry for your poor chickens.
Chickens will come down on there own...but I think they would have came down by now, search your whole woods and a call out some type of phrase they come to like chicki chiki chiki, make sure to say it loud.Myabe they got lost in the woods and cant find there way back?

I second that! Shotgun is much better in a "Have to shoot quick" situation... and leaves a little room for error.
Good luck huntin'! Bust the little snot!

Lol a rabbid coon charged me 1 time when I was in my back yard and all I had was my pump pellet gun!The pellets were the sharp ones too.i was target practicing and this thing comes out of the woods charging me,I shoot it right in its chest it keeps on runnin at me stumbles and falls over.I shot it a second time in the skull to make sure it was dead.I think I might of punctured the heart or lungs I dunno but I ws lucky.
You can spend a lot of time getting eaten by skeeters and waiting for that coon to return. You might get lucky and see it, in which case the shotgun is your best friend. Or... it could be 2-3 days befor it/they return, because after a big meal, they tend to sleep for a couple days.
My advice, buy or borrow a coon sized live trap and bait it with whole eggs. Eggs are not messy and can stay in the trap for up to a month, if nothing is caught. Predators will usually go for an easy meal first. Then you can try and hit it square in the top of the head with your .22. Good luck.......Pop
