I have 11 hens old enough to lay with rooster in my coop. I get any were 7-10 eggs a day. is this number what I should have expected? or do you think my hens should be laying more? if so how can I tell the hens that are laying with the ones that are not.

7-10 eggs per day from 11 hens sounds good to me. You didn't say what breeds you have? Some breeds lay very well, Leghorns for example, and some not, like Silkies. It also depends on how old your hens are. If they just started laying it could take awhile before they all lay regularly. And remember that even the most prolific layers take a day off now and then :)

The normal egg laying cycle is about 25 hours. About the most a hen will lay is 6 eggs per week, and that is when nothing interferes, such as molt, heat or cold, short days, stress, etc. Mine are not laying that well in this heat. I'd say yours are doing fine.

sorry forgot to mention the hens are 9 barred rocks and 2 wet leghorns. they are both about a year and half old.
