I'm glad they did their research first before releasing them. Most people don't even do that. So many people think its OK to release domesitc ducks and ducklings into the wild it's unbelievable. I wouldn't be too upset with them.

You are right, after I talked to this woman a few times I kind of felt for her. I guess her mother thought it would be a good idea to get these guys for this ladies son as an easter present. She feels bad because she's kept them in the house, she has no room, no yard for them to be in ect. She said she's gotten plenty of emails on them and turned them all down because something didn't feel right. Expecially with the one who can't walk. I told her about Ling and that's pretty much the reason she told me I could have them.

People need to do their research BEFORE buying ducklings. On occasion, I've witnessed people dumping their pet ducks on my pond. I'm sure people release domestics out into the wild too. People should know better than to buy ducks when they don't have enough space. I must commend her though for trying to find placement for them. At least she isn't just dumping them!

Some of us wrote letters to the editor or similar actions before Easter, trying to head some of this off. This reminds me to make it a tradition . . . send out admonitions well beforehand to the public to be sure they will be able to provide for ducks. As part of that, I plan to give a duck care talk in a few weeks.

Next year we can aim to do it much earlier. But, hey, we are getting started. Perhaps some duck forum members could talk to their groups, or hold classes through continuing education organizations. How about it?

Thats what happend when we got our first duck. A kids parents allowed him to get a muscovie because it was free about a year later they found out it was a girl and pooping white everywhere so he brought it to our pond to just leave go, So I walked down and got her because shes all white and so friendly she wouldnt have made the night. And that duck is the reason i have so many now o.o

I agree that at least they just didn't release them.
I keep saying I'm going to protest in front of our local TSC next year people buying Easter ducks they are not prepared to raise and keep.
My whole flock is the result of Easter ducks that I've taken in.
