Dog almost killed chickens

My neighbors small dog had almost killed my favorite chicken I couldn’t believe this tiny piece of $h1t dog had a mouth full of feathers luckily I caught it before it did any real harm. I love animals but At first I just wanted to see the inconsiderate drunk horses ass neighbor and his dog guest star in a cartel video But now I’m just on edge about somthing else happening. Fixed the spot where it squeezed through the fence. I think I’m more stressed than the hen Are electric fences the only effective method?

Electric fences work great at keeping all things out. I’m assuming there’s no talking to the neighbor?

Yeah I've had this happen with cats so many times, I'd talk to the neighbour abt keeping the dog inside, its not the dog's yard and in a lot of places its illegal for a dog or cat to be in someone else yard... if the neighbour doesn't do anything, I'd look at ur councils rules and see what u can do from there

I’d like too but they’re unfriendly who love fighting and arguing who knows maybe it wouldn’t hurt to try :/

Glad you were able to save your bird. Electric wires work. Since you were able to plug the hole where the dog got through you will probably be ok. Also I hope you inspected the fence for any other spots where it may be able to squeeze through. You could always put some wire along the bottom of the fence so if there are any gaps nothing will get through them. Good luck...

While we view "our" property as "ours," other animals do not understand or respect that. It is incumbent upon you as a chicken owner to try to ensure the safety of your flock. A sturdy field fence will keep most animals out. Electric is effective as well. But free ranging chickens has risks that cannot be eliminated. You have to pen them up in a run or expect occasional losses.

I'd be mad, too! All of us poultry owners have experienced the same thing. My own dogs will kill chickens and I make sure my dogs are never out when the chickens are out. I use electric wire to keep them and the wild life away from my flock.
