. Ellie seems pretty miserable with her wrapped and splinted foot (and it hasn't even been one week - sigh...) - rain today all the way to the weekend so the poor dears are going to be stuck indoors because she's not supposed to get her foot wet - it feels like one very long week already and it's only Tuesday! Even when it stops raining it will take awhile for the ground to be dry enough - hopefully not so long that we're into the next batch of rain by then. BJ and Ellie need to explore and exercise and it's such a shame that they can't and they don't understand why
I wish I could peak under her bandaging to maker sure everything is in place, splints and all - because she seems really uncomfortable - yet it is more than a one handed task. Even on 'dry' days it seems her bandage gets wet when she digs the earth enough - hoping not so wet as to be a problem.
My hand hurts like a demon - it's been worse since Saturday - more swollen, tingly, numb - but hopefully will calm down (hoping hoping no surgery/pins). Precious little is getting done - so far behind on stuff. Wrote to the ACO on Friday to see if she had checked on the dog's health at 10 days - she wrote back today to say she saw them late last week and would also stop in today and then sign off on the confinement and send me a copy. Unless these folks got religion from this experience, I guess this means the dog will be back soon but I fervently hope not.
Haven't heard from the attorney yet......Will update on legal stuff as it evolves in the hopes that it helps others.
Thanks again for your kind concern and caring. I can't wait to let poor BJ and Ellie back out in the sun. (and doesn't it just figure - they are confined and I find I suddenly have a rodent issue in their main building, though thankfully not in the coop where they sleep - thecoop resides in the main building that they now hang out in during the daytime while under house arrest- this is a time when I would want BJ and Ellie outside more while I dealt with it - and a time where I would thoroughly clean that main building ifI had 2 hands to work with - Murphy's Law! Not the end ofthe world, just pesky....there's a lot of straw that once removed will - I think - deter of most of the univited guests - they don't have access to food..so are just enjoying the bedding...removal of the straw requires moving some heavy things that I'm not supposed to mess with right now... )

JJ i am here as your back up, I just read this whole thread. Please take care of yourself and your birds. You have me as a back up home for birds. Do not worry your self silly. You are the injured party. I do not understand why AC is on the attack other then they are in deep with not doing the right thing and trying to get the heat off of them.
Most here have given you great advice. Follow what your lawyer says. No contac unless thur him/her.
I have read and keep up with this thread and I have to agree with most of these people on here. You did what you could and the law inforcement and animal controll are totally wrong. Where I live in Ohio we call and we get quick response from both and the animals are either destroyed by them or us. We have problems had problems with neighbor kids letting animals out. That took some doing to get it stopped. Hope you feel better and Ellie. One suggestion for Ellies foot staying dry take plastic wrap and put around bandages. Kinda hard one handed, but duct tape at one corner helps wrap it. Wishes you the best.
i saw a great post the other night about a non violent method of scarring/marking a dog that is straying onto your property. someone mentioned that they had been using a paintball gun so they can prove that the animal in question had wandered into your yard.
i am not sure if this is an option, but it might be a way to say to owners of stray animals that they are to be warned the first time and to keep their dogs in check from now on!

Be careful with paintball guns. In most jurisdictions it is legal to kill a dog that is chasing or killing your poultry, but not to just injure it. If a paintball gun bruises a dog, you can be charged with cruelty to animals. When stopping a marauding dog lethal force is usually legal, but taking action that just injures is often prosecutable. Paintballs sound like a nice option, but it can land you jail. It's stupid, but that's the way it is. That's why most people just use a real gun.
