Dog attack. *graphic photo*

Most chickens tolerate pain from wounds much better than we would. They can be stoic though. Aspirin can be used for pain, but should be used with caution ebcause it can cause bleeding. Dosage is 81 mg given orally twice a day. Or give 325 mg in a cup of water. A vet could prescribe meloxicam as well for pain and inflammation.
I actually have meloxicam here from my other dog who has arthritis. She doesn’t act like she is in a lot of pain other than being very stoic. She has tolerated the gel being applied 3 times a Day very well. The only time she acted like she had discomfort was when I gave her the penicillin injection but with how thick that stuff is I am sure it burned.

Just a quick update. She has survived the weekend! Her wound still looks awful but she is upright and walked around with the flock for a little while today. I’m honestly stunned that she is still alive and trying not to get my hopes up but it does appear to be healing some.

So glad to hear that she is alive and is healing. You can update the thread with pictures as the wound heals. Is she eating and drinking well? If she has survived this far, she has a good chance of healing. Pictures as it heals can help show others that might be going through a similar situation.
She doesn’t seem to want to eat and drink much but given the severity of her injuries I’m
Just amazed that she was able to free range with the flock this evening. I will get some pictures tomorrow of how she is healing. It’s gnarly looking but definitely getting better.

Here is an updated photo of The hen who was injured. This is after 4 days of penicillin injections and Vetericyn spray gel application 3 times a day.

What a great update. Chickens can be surprisingly resilient. I would add a some scrambled eggs and some other high protein/energy food to her diet for a day or two as she heals.

Man, here's some good luck and hope for you. I didn't even think she was still alive in that picture! I sure hope she at least starts drinking soon.

Sad update! Trudy passed sometime over night last night. She made it way longer than I ever thought she would’ve with how severe the wound was. :(
