Dog attack. *graphic photo*

It's always tough to lose a bird, even tougher when it takes days before she passes and you put all that hard work into her... so I am sorry for that. There is something almost merciful in the fact that most attacks on chickens are quick and fatal. Still- don't take it out on the doodle he's just being a dog. Just make sure as the parent you know what he's capable of and don't put him in that situation again. Chin up! You did a good thing, it just didn't have a happy ending this time.

This happened to my hen. Took her to the vet, and he put her on antibiotics, and meloxicam for pain. Said to keep her in my extra bathroom for a couple of weeks, which I had 2 large dog crates that I put together, and had them on top of wood boards over my jacuzzi tub. Told me to only rinse her back with cool water for 10-15 min a day, and NOT to apply ointments of any kind to it. So this is what I done for 2 weeks. I am IN NC, and the heat and humidity are horrid, so we was worried about the flies laying their eggs on her back. It was a month ago now, and she is as good as new. Her feathers have came back, well, they are about 4 inches long now. But she can recover from this.
