Dog attack, how to help my poor girl (graphic pictures)

I thought my ducks wouldn't produce after what happened ..... I am pleased and surprised just two moths after the attack they are produce fertile duck eggs. I pulled 41 and 16 out of the 41 are fertile the other lot not looking good . Even if they don't hatch I am thankful for their full recovery. Best wishes :)

I am glad to hear Minnie is doing OK. She must be a resilient chicken, that looked like a severe wound, even without considering the crushing force by the dogs jaws to cause it.

What breed of dog is it? Also you can call animal control when you see the dog roaming around and say its a stray, they will take away. If they don't you can call the cops saying your neighbors dog is murdering your chickens and they will take it to a shelter. Just don't kill the dog, its the owners fault the dog is killing your chickens. Dogs are natural killers and will hunt so you absolutely can NOT blame the dog for that, you should blame your neighbor. Plus what good does it do taking that dogs life?, honestly is should be the owner of the dog that gets the punishment. They are dogs they don't understand what they do wrong.

Hi all,

Today my poor Minnie had a fight with a neighbor's dog. The dog tore her up pretty badly. Her skin is ripped open from halfway down her back all the way to her tail, and the dog chewed into the muscle right above her tail/into her thigh. I brought her in, cleaned the wound and blu-koted it. It has been several hours and she is eating and pooping, and walking around a little bit. Is there anything else I should do to help her out? Should I cover the wound? This is my first dog attack that didn't end in fatality, so I am not sure what to do for her. I am including a picture of the wound, the blu-kote makes it look awful but it is still pretty bad without it. Thanks!

Keep wound clean, dog bites are puncture wounds and filled with bacteria. Leave uncovered, let air circulate but watch for flies you don't want maggots. Give her some electrolytes if she shows signs of shock. you can give her baby aspirin(81mg) for pain relief, dose is 25mg per lb of body weight. Crush and put in water or sprinkle over feed. Watch for infection.

She has already healed, sorry i didn't realize this was an old post. Glad she has recovered.
