dog attack, large wound

I would go and get some Blukote. It did amazing things for my 4 that got hurt 3 weeks ago. They had bad and I mean bad deep gaping wounds. Flush with saline, I wouldn't use the peroxide mainly because it kills most everything it touches and you want the new skin to come in and some bacteria is necessary. Spray the Blukote on the wound. I'm totally sold on that stuff. All my girls have survived and are healing beautifully. This is the thread, maybe you will get some help from this.

I definately have blucote. We always keep that stuff around and I never even thought of using it. What a great suggestion.

she wasn't interested in drinking at all until I brought home the grape flavoured pedialyte (sp?). She thought that was the greatest stuff ever and within a half hour of drinking that up she was eating everything I offered her and drinking on her own. she got up to move around and she is limping pretty bad. I know she's made it this far but there is still a long road ahead.

She is such a fighter. This hen has already faced death once this summer. She didn't return home one evening and I waited and waited and waited. I waited every evening for one week. We were searching for every day because I at least wanted to find a pile of feathers. Two weeks after she went missing, my husband found Fuzzy laying under a hawthorn bush. She was still alive and when he picked her up she was sitting on a clutch of eleven eggs. She was in rough shape! But she just never gives up, this is one chick that will NEVER see a stew pot.

It sounds like you are doing great with her. Might I also suggest some boiled eggs. When one of mine got attacked by her own flock, I gave her some mixed with some grit and she ate it all up. I'm glad to hear she is doing better. Also get some Apple Cider Vinegar that is raw and un-pasturized. I had to go to a local health food store to buy it. One TBLE. per gallon in water or whatever she is drinking. It will help boost her immunity. We are praying for a speedy and healthy recovery for her. Give your dogs a hug too. Mine have attacked my chickens as well. They are doing what they do.

She reminds me of the bald eagle, Sam, from The Muppets. She always looks mean and she is mean. She is the top biddy in the biddy barn and she has no problem reminding everybody. Yah, I can't believe how well she is doing. I didn't think she'd make it through the first night. As long as we don't have any complications with infection, I really believe she'll make a full recovery.

All of your support and kind words have helped me more than you could know. I feel welcomed into a special family and I hope I will be able to pay back the kindness I have been shown.

So glad to hear she is doing better and better - I've got my fingers crossed that she continues to improve a bit every day until she is right back in the hen house bossing everyone else around.
