My 5 month old Barred Rock pullet escaped yesterday and my dog grabbed her. I don't think that I've ever screamed so loud as when I saw it happen.

She's currently in my house in a crate. The only visible wound is about a half inch tear on the flap above her vent.

It bled slightly and then just oozed clear liquid with a little pink. We've been spraying Vetrycin on it several times a day, putting plain neosporin over that and we clean any fecal material off when we find it.

She isn't moving much but will stand. Idk if maybe there's a soft tissue injury or what. She had trouble walking after it happened yesterday.

She's had sugar water and Save A Chick along with regular water and her feed. She's drinking more than eating and actually laid an egg in the crate today. Her wattles are red but she's just laying down.

Should she go in to the vet or is this more of a wait and see? I worry about infection from the dog mouth and where the wound is.

I will try and get a picture of the wound to post.

It looks so awful.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
The vent wound didn't look too bad in the pictures, but dogs tend to squeeze and shake, so internal injuries are certainly possible. So very sorry.
:hugs
