dog attack. punctured crop. warning graphic pics

Welcome To BYC

This thread is from 2015, so likely you will not get any replies from the Original Poster.

Can you please post some photos of your hen, the wound and tell us how you've been treating it? Was the puncture stitched up and has since reopened? If stitched, did you stitch the crop, then the skin separately or together?

How is the overall demeanor of your hen is she dehydrated and weak or still hanging in there?

Since there is a foul stench, you are likely dealing with infection. Is vet care an option for you?

Please try to give as much information as you can so we can try to give you some suggestions. I'll tag in @azygous

Dear Wyorp Rock,
No, I have not attempted nor has the wound been stitched up before, I just give her food and water but i fear that sometimes the water drips out and food spills out. And her overall state is her being in critical condition with barely being able to jump onto high places. The stench isnt that bad but it like a pair of stinky socks. And no, vet care is not an option because my parents think it is too expensive. Ill do anything to save my chicken.

That doesn't look very good.
You mention she's in critical condition due to barely being able to jump onto high places - is she alert, able to walk around, eat/drink?

With an injury like this, I wouldn't want her jumping up high at this time, you want to restrict her activity so she can heal up. Do you have a cage or large dog kennel that you can put her in?

A wound like that really needs to be closed since the crop is torn and the contents are leaking. Do you have someone that can help you with treating the wound?

Do you have any antiseptic like Iodine, Povidone Iodine on hand?

Yes we def lucked out on the neighbor situation. Awesome people all around us. So this morning chickoletta looks great! Eating and drinking, even laid me a beautiful blue egg. She's perky but still sore. Hopeful that she will continue to improve. She's just the best little chicken. She's the one in my avatar picture.
Wonderful news. So happy for you and your hen.
