All you want to see is the tissue when you done that way you know what your working with and at that point rake a picture and we can tell you where to go from there. With out being able to see what flesh you have to work with its impossible to know if she can be saved but if there not much damage she is likely to make it. Hens get crop impactuin that get operated on and survive.

Ok sorry i wasnt able to take more pictures. We had her on the table husband was watching the kids a friend came over to hold her it just wasnt the time to stop and take pics. We got most of her feathers around the wound pulled. Some of her feathers around the jagged edges of the injury had to be clipped because the skin was so tore up it was ripping, even though i was pulling in the right direction. My friend who helped is a nurse, and with her she brought all sorts of anti bacterials, saline, gauze, the works. Got all debris and food flushed from wound and crop opening. Sewed the hole closed, pulled the flap of skin back over and sewed that back on. Left space for drainage. Cleaned again, spread on a anti bacterial and loosely dressed it. She is comfortably resting, did see her drink water. Tomorrow I'm grabbing an antibiotic for her water. Time will tell. Hopefully she makes it. Thank you all for your help and encouragement.

Thank you. I'll def keep everyone posted. Yes the neighbor's called me to let me know what had happened, i wasnt home at the time. They helped me look for two of my flock who were missing, just hiding, and were/are very apologetic. Have called me a few times too check on her, and have offered to compensate us. They have also fixed the fence damage their dog did and are now keeping her on a moving line 40ft long for when she's out on the yard. They are the nicest people and feel really awful.

I hope your girl makes it! It sounds like your doing the very best you can, just make sure any meds you give her or creams you put on her don't contain any ingredients ending in cain/caine, because they are/can be toxic to chickens. Please keep us updated on her condition!

Wow, that's what I call good neighbors, wish mine were as considerate. One side wouldn't allow us to "extend" the height of their rock wall with fencing, the other side let us (thank goodness) got 3 Pits & 2 hunting pups that would love to get at my chickens. Get some rest, although I know it's going to feel like a long night.

Yes we def lucked out on the neighbor situation. Awesome people all around us. So this morning chickoletta looks great! Eating and drinking, even laid me a beautiful blue egg. She's perky but still sore. Hopeful that she will continue to improve. She's just the best little chicken. She's the one in my avatar picture.
