We have a 7-week-old chick who was bit by our dog. Long story short, we were putting them outside in their oen 2 weeks ago, and didn't realize our dog was out. Our communication is good now, though.
Anyway, her tail and side of tail was basically degloved and there was a clear bubble that heaved as she breathed. She scabbed up and those have fallen off. Nice new pink skin underneathe.
She is extremely active, eating, pooping, playing, foraging, pine bedding bathing, preening, just a happy little chick. She is still separated from other chicks we got at same time after 2 weeks. While the wounds are healed, they pick at her pink skin showing and new feathers.
Since almost day 1, she has had a bacterial colony that has gotten smaller. It smells like ammonia. It was very large at first, and I have and still am bathing the area 2 times a day with cooled salt water that I boil and spray Vetericyn on several times a day.
The last stand on this injury is around her vent. There is a flap type area that is red, very small, less than a pencil eraser (see pics). I can't seem to get rid of it. Maybe it just needs more time?
We clean her bedding daily, pine shavings. She also has electrolytes and probiotics in her water.
Help on this final leg of this terrible journey?
