Dog crates - would you do this? Why or why not?

If the doors are only closed when the you are away I would leave them seperate. Each dog has their own space now and if they choose to sleep together they can and they can also choose to sleep separately.

If it works well, then it should be fine for your two couch potatoes.

My mom has chihuahuas and her huppy has pitbull mixes. They couldn't combine crates if they wanted to!

I crate mine for protection of valuable assets. Aka, EVERYTHING. Young dog chews everything in sight.

The old dogs are crated because they are forgetting how to be house broken in their old age. They absolutely love and adore each other and would be devastated if we separated them. There is no danger having them together whatsover. The poodle is ancient and only has half her teeth......the shepherdX is ooooold and super submissive. They adore each other and always sleep together. lick each others faces, etc.
