Dreaming...:hmm I wish could have my old Black Pug back. She was my heart. :hugs
Mutsy my oldest living dog of 16.5 years. I still miss her daily.
Tinker you silly little chihuahua I am sorry for that bell on your collar because it ended up killing you and not protecting you. :hit
I wish I had my old dogs back..:th

You had a pug that lived to 16.5? That’s incredible! I’d like to know what happened with the bell (for precautionary reasons) but understand if you don’t want to talk about it.)

Awww! I didn't mean to upset anyone..:hmm
I totally miss my past dogs and they really are my dream dogs though. :hit
Your Dog was adorable too...:hugs

It is ok. My Jack was a really big guy so didn't get to live a long life.
He was happy every day he was with us though. Always wagging and was a good soul to be around.

No..My Pug Kizzy was put down at 13 years old. Bad teeth and heart was going. Wouldn't of survived a surgery. Mutsy my Bichon/Shihtzu/Poodle was 16.5 and put her down last fall...:hmm old age got her..:hugs
Tinker Bell my Chihuahua was 10 years old. I don't mind saying what happened.
She had bells on her collar so we could hear her. We moved here so no collar or bells anymore. Well I was stupid and put the collar back on with bells that were harder metal. :hmm
She chewed the bells that then pinched and tore up her mouth. We didn't notice until her face and snout started to swell. Thought bee stings? Took her to vet and mouth was rotting and torn. :(
I doctored her two weeks and that was healing good but her heart gave out because of her murmur! Definitely a devastating day! :hit
I rushed her in and put her down. :th

We had a Brittany named Caleb. Just to let you know they're very high strung and energetic. They need a lot of space to run. They're also a hunting breed so I wouldn't recommend it unless you had lots of land.

They live duck hunting and bird hunting... Probably not a good breed for someone who owns birds

Thanks, this is helpful. I figured they’d be pretty energetic and they seem to be more so than even other spaniels? I know spaniels in general seem more energetic than Labs & Goldens but Brittanys seem even more so than most haha

Might not be the best choice but idk. I may have to go with a different spaniel breed or a Golden or something.

But I actually love all the sporting/gun dog breeds as well as the herding breeds and shepherds so I’m used to/expecting energy haha

I actually kind of want it because I want to try agility and/or nose work with next dog so it’d be nice to have a dog that can do that.

I also love training whether it’s tricks or obedience or whatever. I’m always researching and finding something else to train.

And I love hiking and biking and stuff.

Plus we have almost 3 acres as well as tons of places to walk/hike/swim/run off leash right outside my doorstep or within a few minutes drive. So a working breed isn’t a problem here. :)

I actually think mental stimulation is more important than physical in some ways but I’ve got both covered.

But that said, I’m still not sure whether I want a dog that needs all that daily or whether I want one that can do it but can also take a day off as needed. I’m leaning more towards the latter.

As much as I love doing this stuff, it’d be nice to have a dog that’s not so in your face haha

That said though, I have heard Brittanys have fantastic noses so they may be a great candidate for nose work or tracking if I want to do that.

As for the birds, most of the breeds I’m looking at are sporting breeds anyway and my birds are penned so it’s not a huge issue for me. I figure I could also hopefully train them to leave them alone, people have done it hunting Labs, but if not I’ll keep them penned and separated.

Yep. They're all the rage right now. Lots of German shepherds with aggression issues at the shelter these days.
I've been around a lot of brittany dogs and found that, like all dogs, they vary. I've been around super calm, sweet ones, yippy, high strung ones, etc. I'm an active person, and I want a water dog to go on kayaking trips with me. Plus, I get to bring my dogs to work, so they're never really left alone.

Yeah, it’s really sad. :( I see tons on Craigslist too and I even saw a few Malinois litters on Craigslist recently. Stuff like that really annoys me because those dogs especially are NOT pets and can be dangerous in the wrong hands. :(

They can be fantastic dogs and I would get one but even I think they’re way too much for me let alone for the average dog owner.

I think you’d be perfect for a Brittany!!! :D

For me, I think I’m probably better off with a retriever but I do love them.

The funny thing is I’m really normally not that active, as I’m sure you know, but yet when I’m with dogs, I’m the complete opposite and I’ll do anything to make them happy and tired. I’ll take them on way longer walks than necessary or out in the rain or freezing cold or I’ll train/do tons of mental stimulation activities just because I want to tire them out. I actually tire myself out in the process because I do so much. :lau

Back in my much younger days, when I was single young man - not being a dog person was a deal breaker for me. I come with a dog and don't make me choose - because the dog wins that one! I've never been without a dog - and hopefully never will be.

Agreed!!

So cute!!!

My Titan:
When he was the little bro, was submissive and goofy. Now that he's an only dog - his Pyrenees instincts have kicked in. Nothing gets near his chickens. He'll chase down hawks, and coyote. He'll also chase helicopters and planes.

What a handsome guy!! :love

@KDOGG331, have you researched Royal Standard poodles? If I were a poodle gal, that's where I'd end up.

I have not but just did and they seem awesome!!! Don’t know if I want a huge dog though :lau

But from the description they seem like they have calmer personalities than most standards too? That’s definitely a perk.

And I guess 70-80 really isn’t that big. Libby’s that size. :D

River cannot believe I haven't posted her picture yet.
