...and of course it's my little BR cockeral. I had them out in what I thought was a safe "nursery", and the darn dog bashed it until he got one out. Mind you, this is my Boxer, who has been healing from a serious cut.

The chick is still alive, the dog was kinda tossing him, playing with him. The chick was soaking wet, but is dried now, I've got him in a seperate box with a heating pad on medium.

There are some teeth marks, but no broken skin. Stupid me for trusting the dog. I looked out the window to see what he was barking at and was HORRIFIED to see him toss the chick.

This is a three week old BR cockeral, do you think it's possible for him to survive the trauma? He's sleeping right now, and peeps intermittently, but he's just flat out exhausted, I think.

Arg! I feel so dumb!!

awww sorry-just wanted to remind you to only put the heating pad in a small part of the box so he can get away if needed. I had a 2 week old chick survive a hawk talon through it's body once.

Oh gosh, i'm so sorry. If he doesn't have any internal injury, the little guy should be okay. If you don't see any puncture wounds, he may have just been "mouthing" him. You are doing the right thing keeping him quiet and calm. You may want to give him some nourishing treats, if he is willing to eat, like yogurt or some cooked egg.

Hope he makes a full recovery!

Yes, I do think its possible for him to survive. We have had quite a few "dog attack" chickens make it, even after pretty brutal treatment. Just cross your fingers, take tender care of him and he may just surprise you

Hope he heals up...

I had a similar experience early this week, though my poodle killed one of my silkies.

aww!!..i'm sorry to hear about the chick...thats my biggest fear..one of my dogs getting ahold of one of mine...i hope he makes it....best wishes..Wendy

Well, he's moving around and eating, so I think he'll be okay.

Chico, our boxer, is slinking around all guilty, so he knows I'm angry with him.

Thanks everyone-
Em
