Dog illness/gastro issues question??

Beacuse I am in another counrty..never mind just a different state... this may be useless... but i will give you the info anyway.

At my vet there is a little jar and this is a donation jar for a charity that helps pay for vet fees when the owners simply cant afford it, maybe your vet has the connection to a charity like this.. it never hurts to call and ask.

with that said... I have a few questions...

Is the blood in the poo?
what colour is the poo?
will she eat rice?

She's got that anyway even when she's well. It's kinda funny...she goes over to DH like she wants petting...gases, looks around as if to say "who did that!!" and runs...makes him SO MAD

sorry to say but the shaking/shivering is most likely caused by being in pain. We had a dog who had severe kidney problems. A young dog at that who would shiver laying down on her side and pull her back legs forward. Hunched back slightly when she walked. Next time the dog takes a pee, get a good look at stream of urine. Note color. Real clear urine is not good neither is red tinged. Should be yellow. Also, did the dog get alot of turkey treats around christmas? My neighbors dog had issues from eating turkey and fatty skin.

What are the signs of pancreatitis?
The signs can vary from mild gastrointestinal upset to collapse and death. Most animals present with common gastrointestinal signs of upset, such as:

•Vomiting
•Not eating
•Painful abdomen, hunched appearance (more common in dogs
•Fever or below-normal body temperature
•Diarrhea
•Depression
•Dehydration, evaluated by noting sunken eyes, dry mouth, and increased skin turgor (skin tents when pinched)

These signs are not specific for pancreatitis, and can be seen with many gastrointestinal diseases and conditions. All or some of the signs may be noted in an individual patient with pancreatitis. Cats can be especially difficult to diagnose due to the vague signs they exhibit with chronic pancreatitis - depression/lethargy and poor appetite are seen with regularity, and gastrointestinal signs of vomiting, diarrhea, and / or pain are seen intermittently.

How is pancreatitis diagnosed?
Your veterinarian will evaluate your pet's history (i.e. getting into the garbage, eating a lot of food they normally don't - especially fatty foods, etc.), do a thorough physical examination, and likely do blood tests to rule out other diseases and to check pancreatic enzymes. Radiographs may also be done to rule out a gastric or intestinal foreign body or other GI diseases or conditions.

I was always told plain pumpkin was good for dogs tummy. She had to also boil hamburger, to get out the fat, drain rinse and mix with some boiled rice to get her dog to eat

what do her stools look like? Bloody? Mucus like? Are there worms in her stools? Is she running a temp? When she walks does she roach her back or is it a normal gait? Is she drinking normally and eating normally? What do her gums look like? When you press on them with your finger how fast does the color return?

Your dog could have parvo, and without treatment, she will die. Look into care credit, and get her into the vet.

Dar- no blood, normal color, just thin. Yes she will eat anything that's part of the problem, but right now she's just not eating as much and I have noticed her weight loss the last few days. She acts like she's very thirsty and drinks a lot, but I'm not sure if it's excessive because she normally drinks a lot. She keeps her tail tucked and lays around, and for her that's very abnormal. She has had diarrhea all week. I don't think she has had one solid poo since last Thursday (5 days)and I have been giving her ginger to soothe her stomach which helps with the tail tucking, but still loose bowels. She still wants play time and everything, just not as much herself lately. Usually you can't keep her slobbery tennis ball off your lap! She lays by me and sleeps a lot more.

sometimes you have to withhold all food and let their tummy rest. try that for 24 hours. you need to address the diarehha for sure. That can be just as dangerous.

Wonder if you can get a cheap fecal exam? Some vets would let you bring in a sample only. I think ours was like $12

try feeding her some rice.. this may help firm up the stool... and this may sound gross but her anus may be sore as well. make sure she is clean there and not raw from the liquid poo. you can put a little vaseline around her anus to soothe the raw skin if this becomes a problem. Pumpkin is also good for tender tummies
