dog killed 15 hens and one is left with dog 2 dog bites. I have baytril. but not sure what to use.

Hi,
What size catheter do you use normally? french size.

When I use baby bird food, I use a size 18 since it seems to work on everything 400 grams or more, but when I use crumbles on larger birds, I use a 30. FWIW, I've noticed that the 35ml syringes last longer than the 60's.

Baby bird food is they way to go if you don't mind spending the money, crumbles are just too hard to get the right consistency with.

Baby bird food..??
Please what kind ?
Thank you.

My chicken is also undergoing wound care right now (his wing was ripped off. Stinking coon) What concerns me looking at your photos is the greenish looking drainage. Here's what I am currently doing my my chick and *fingers crossed* it's working so far.
Irrigate the wounds- get wound cleaner from the store, any pharmacy aisle will have it. It's an aerosol can. It has the correct amount of PSI to wash debris out of the wound. Do that two to three times a day.
Pat dry, as you don't want the wound bed wet. Bacteria grows in moisture.
You can put iodine on also, mix 50/50 with water. A syringe works great for this. Ask a pharmacist really nicely, they might give you one. =)
Put Neosporin (normal kind, not the pain free one) on a q-tip and apply to the wounds. Do a generous amounts.
If you cover the wounds to help keep debris out do a light layer so air can still get in.

Food- mine is still on crumbles. I have taken to mixing a spoonful of yogurt with his food.
Electrolytes is good.
Heat lamp is good also.

Someone linked me to a super awesome post on here. If I can find it I will link it for you!

Thank you very much. I am going to weigh her tomorrow so as to keep track.

she does have a smell of rot from the big wound.
This bothers me alot!

Will this go away with cleansing and irrigating ??
Smell from wound means infection has set in,dog bites are puncture wounds and dangerous, almost always result in infection. Wound has to heal from inside out, watch for any scabs covering wound, you might have to remove scabs to ensure wound is healing INSIDE. What are you using on wounds? How many times during the day are wounds cleaned?

Wounds are cleaned twice a day. With chlorohexedine the vet gave me. It is diluted to a light blue color. She gets 2 cc's of liquid Baytril twice a day. and neosporin

She hurts when this is done to her. But the smell scares me more.

Would the beta dine be better ?

I have a plant light the long tube one on her. It has two tube and is above her.

If your vet gave you chlorhexidine,i would use that,my understanding is they are very similar. I would clean wound more frequently,do to infection setting in. Are wounds healing? Neosporin you are using has no pain relief ending in "caine" ie: lidocaine, this is toxic to chickens. I would also use what Casportpony suggested, your chick is very sick and probably in shock, keep her warm, quiet. You can only do your best, and you are!

After reading all posts, I too will flush four times a day.
Now have the Triple Antibiotic and using that. No pain reliever.
I bought yogurt, kefir, cottage cheese
and going to get the Kaytee Exact and pedialyte tomorrow.

I am so very sad. 15 of my beautiful girls killed and one left of the Australorpes, Whispers. I am exhausted.

Thank you very much.
