dog killed 15 hens and one is left with dog 2 dog bites. I have baytril. but not sure what to use.

When I took Whispers to the vet for the wound I didn't see, he pulled a huge amount of debis out of the hole. He told me to flush and fill with neosporin and take debris out . It was tan/yellow rubbery debris. The hole would not close if the debris was not taken out. Good luck.

The actual wound has closed, this was about an inch down from her wound, after I pulled a pin feather out. Left a tiny little hole (no bigger than a pencil eraser, when stretched open) with yellow spray cheese looking stuff. It wasn't much, but I cleaned it out as well as I could, pulling some yellow membrane stuff out with tweezers. Considering her wound left an opening into her chest cavity, I am not suprised that there is some infection/rejection of debris in there. She's doing really well altogether though, so we'll keep on doing what we're doing.

I would say she has about 80% recovered from her ordeal.

Isn't it great they recover like they did.
I remember the vet told me to put her down.
and at our last visit he truly was amazed at her recovery.

I was calling the vet to ask how much it was to have her put down... we dispatched a rooster before and it was horrible, so we could NOT see ourselves do that again to my sweet girl. Glad we decided to give her a chance. It seemed wrong to put her down after she made it through a hawk attack.. like betrayal on my part.

So yes, let this thread bring hope to those with wounded chickens. They're amazing!

This is a great thread. I have learned so much and shared so much here! Good idea that you subscribed to this one!

Lots of posts from us on injured hens. Lots of ideas shared and lots of things to learn. And I thought they were just chickens. LOL. I lie my birdie girls!

I made the leg brace. It looks a lot like the picture I found on Poultry Podiatry. I put it on my birdie girl. It didn't make her stand though. It made her do SOMMERSAULTS. :(. It was comical for a moment. Then it made me cry. I couldn't even take a picture with her wearing it! What am I going to do with her? I really thought this was the answer.
